“It is through the transformation of your personal trauma that your purpose will appear.”
A colleague shared these words with me this week and they struck me as oh so true! All humans have experienced a multitude of traumas in our lifetimes. Small ones and large ones. Layers of small traumas can impact us as mightily as a single big trauma.
And nearly everyone I know wants to know, “Why am I here? What am I here for?” In other words we hunger for purpose.
Our choice is whether or not we are going to show up for ourselves and heal. Will we transform and even transmute our pain? Or will we seal it over, say it’s no big deal, and tell ourselves to just get over it?
The latter option just won’t work! We may be able to fool ourselves for a while, but when we oppress ourselves in any way, sooner or later that oppression will catch up with us. It may take the form of depression, anxiety, addiction, or physical disease.
Transmuting trauma with psychotherapy, while still not easy, is gentler than it was in the past as the focus moves away from recovering and processing memory and towards rewiring the brain and calming the whole system.
As that rewiring and calming occurs, purpose arises, unblocked and unlocked, with little effort on the part of the transforming person. Questions arise and you ask them. Opportunities arise and you say, “Yes.” Passion arises for something unexpected that surprises you!
It is through the transformation of your personal trauma that your purpose will appear!
Welcome YOUR personal transformation.
End of winter blessings to all of you,
Cathy
